The only diff between my DIY equipo stands and the others mentioned below is that for the top shelf, I had 4 nuts welded to 4 flat plates measuring approx 3"X 3". I drilled the underside of the top shelf, but not all the way through. The 4 nut/plate units were screwed (4 wood screws per assembly) to the underside of the top shelf with the nut facing up and recessed into the hole in the shelf.
This leaves the top shelf totally flat and clear of obstructions.Happy DIY'ing,
