HowdyThere are a lot of posts with speculation about them both on Tweaks and Digital. My thumbnail sketch of the hypotheses is that they lower jitter by allowing reading with less scattering of the laser light. Truth be told I'm not into CD tweaking and was amazed that many of the CD tweaks we tried at a local audio club meeting worked. I've heard them work in other settings too, but I still can't bring myself to tweak each of the discs in my CD or SACD collection... If I were that twitchy I'd have vinyl :)
