Charging rate on most batteries should not exceed 10% of the battery's potential/hr. i.e. a 10A battery should take 10 hrs. to safely re-charge from total discharge. If you're using NiMH batteries it's a good idea to charge and discharge them 3-4 times (thru about a 100 ohm R) before putting them into service. This conditions the battery and allows it to deliver more of its' potential before it goes flat.
