I have used underinflated inner tubes and super ba;;s under my cd player. In addition I use 8 pounds of sand bags on the floor of the CD player chassis to add mass.THe proponrnt of superballs here at the AA suggested that a mass (paving blocks etc.) be placed on top of the suoerballs. The audio component is then coupled to the mass.
I currently have 5/4-inch white maple block with super balls on top of the maple and the component on top of the superballs. I really haven't discerned a marked difference between the inner tube and superballs. I have been using the superballs primarily because of the platform stablilty over that of the inner tube.
I never use more than three 3/4-inch nalls under any component. I have listened to the wodd block or mdf then the chassis through a stephascope and I know that the superballs and the inner tube with a little mass sufficiently isolates the component.
Try a search on superballs under this asylum and you should find the original post isolating a electron microscope.
