I sandwiched two pieces of 3/4" MDF for my shelves and used 3/4" rod....I too got lazy and wanted to but didn't make a middle "constrained" layer. My rack weighs a ton and appears to be very inert....I noticed a sonic improvement immediately! GOOD LUCKIt's not the final destination that counts so much, as it is enjoying the journey along the way
