with a component like an electrolytic, which is by design supposed to work in one direction only, being used in a bipolar app. Series-in-opposition still provides the opportunity to reverse bias one of the lytics, as music waveforms are never voltage symmetric in the time domain.I played a mobile gig once, for the wife of a rather "connected" shall we say, husband. During the course of the party, one particular record had a combination of whatever signal, that caused the tweeter crossover caps (non polarized, but very well voltage overrated for the app) to explode, BOTH channels at the same time. NO clipping was involved. In a system that was proofed over 2 years of operation.
My friend grabbed me, and yelled in my ear "DON'T MOVE",,he then pointed to the "guys" interspersed around the room, with suits, all with their right hand in their jacket, looking around furtively...
I don't use those type of caps anymore....
Cheers, John
