>>my question is how do i locate the coupling capacitor? according to the service manual, there are about 100 capacitors in the audio output board alone and it would be really hard for me to make a correct guess...This shouldn't be too hard. Take a look at the audio output board schematic. Now, first find out the L and R outputs (which tie to the RCA connectors that you connect to in order to send the signal out of the cdp and into your amp). Next, trace the signal path back into the board until you reach the first capacitor in the signal path. That should be the output capacitor, which is in SERIES with the output path.
Last step, take note of that cap location number (ex. C247) in the schematic, and then open up the cover of the cdp, locate the audio out board (it has the RCA jacks connected to it) and then find that cap and desolder it and put in the new one. Do this for L and R output caps and then ENJOY better sound!Take note of all mods you do so you can always revert back to the default if you do not like the change in sound, but replacing those el cheapo output caps should remove sloppiness from the bass.
Take your time!
