....not to use MDF unless you have already heard it's effect on your components and you like it. For me, the wood you choose has as much or more effect on the sound as cableing! That means maple for my rack. MDF prototype was harsh and artificially detailed.
Also, to reach up 51" the shelves should be proportionately wider for aesthetics. The rack set-up on my webpage is 36" tall and the
1 3/4" quilted maple shelves are 24" wide. This will give you some idea of the scale.
Don't worry about racking the rack if you attempt to move it after it's "loaded": you can't!LOL
