Re: Seismic isolation for loudspeakers

Barry:
I think the results of isolating the speakers from the floor, as opposed to grounding them to the floor, depend greatly on the stability of the floor itself. I found that my McIntosh LS360 speakers sitting on 80 year old wood floors benefit sonically from 1/4 inch sorbothane pads placed under the sandwiches of BDR pucks and cones that replace the speakers' stock spikes. However, in my secondary system, consisting of retired equipment set up in the basement, my old Rogers P4 speakers sound better spiked directly onto the concrete floor. As a matter of fact, they sound so good, I'd move all my first string stuff down there, if it were a bit more comfortable. It reminded me what some experts say that the room itself is really an important component in audio systems. Enjoy. Pat Carroll.
