I'm considering something similar myself…

and I'm tossing up on a couple of ideas while I keep looking, because I haven't been able to find a screen I like.

I currently place some DIY room lenses in the opening when doing really serious listening. While they don't do much on blocking sound from escaping, they do reflect a bit back into the room. My opposite wall (these are the side walls and the opening extends to the front and back of the speaker plane) has a very large bookcase area with the books providing a fair amount of absorption, but that can't quite balance the effect of the opening so adding a bit of reflection into the opening produces a small but welcome improvement.

I've thought of building a single frame to hold the room lens tubes in a single unit - a large, 12 pipe unit - that would span about two thirds of the opening and have a bit more stability than the individual units. While that would obviously achieve the effect I'm looking for, I'd like something a lot more attractive if I can manage it because this particular doorway opens into the main hall very close to the front door so appearance is an issue.

The other option I've thought about is I've seen some very nice wooden doors with adjustable wooden louvres. The best of these have very nice, solid louvres that are a thin, elongated oval in cross section and the whole door and louvre combination are very nicely finished. 3 or 4 narrow doors of this sort (say 15-18" wide each) hinged together could make a very nice folding screen and I could adjust the angles of the louvres in each door separately to increase the diffusion of the reflections from the screen. The only problem with this option is that I figure these doors are going to be expensive, and they definitely wouldn't come in within your $200 budget. I have seen cheaper doors of a similar sort but the finish and appearance is definitely not of the same order and the louvres are flat rather than contoured and rather flimsy in comparison.

Once again this wouldn't do much in blocking sound but then no screen will since sound is simply going to go around, above and below it. Short of installing an actual door you're not going to get much reduction in the sound leaving your room.

As I said, I'm still looking around myself so maybe this will generate some more suggestions.
