When I said 4700uF was enough, that was with a full wave bridge. You are using a half-wave rectifier (1 diode), which will have more ripple etc., so you might want to consider squeezing in two 11DQ10's (or similar) for a full-wave rectifier, or even four as a bridge. Might as well since you're already going to some trouble with this.
