The stock DI/O has lots of gain because it has gain in the opamp output stage. If you use a one to one transformer directly on the output of the DAC you will have slightly less than 2 volts. You would only need a step down transformer if you think 2 volts is too much. The stock DI/O has something like 8 volts.Thanks, Ric.

So I was assuming he wasn't bypassing the opamp output stage and was going to feed the transformer from that as opposed to straight out of the DAC in which case as you say a 1:1 would do just fine unless you needed more attenuation.
