Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

I have little experience with electronics, but want to set up my office system as follows:
CD player (variable voltage outputs), connected directly to monoblock amps (no control).
I tried this, and found that with the output of the variable voltage set to '1' (the lowest of 8 settings), it is very loud. I would say that it's about as loud as I would ever play the system.
So, assuming the cd player puts out somewhere in the order of 1.8 to 2v (a guess?), then where should I start experimenting with resistor values for a voltage divider (in the interconnects)?
My goal is to have the '1' setting as very soft background music, and '8' as full power.
I've done a search here, but found no values...
Thanks for the help.
