Speaker & stand setup ...

198.96.2.93

Ok, I have a pair of Dynaudio 52's on Target HR60 stands (spiked) using the felt pads supplied with the stands - suspended floor carpeted over a reasonably good under padding. I've tried filling the stands with sand at two different levels (3/4 full & 1/3 full) without much success - both times, the mids muddied up somewhat (less at the 1/3 mark) and the bass got boomier (less in control) - I've now reverted back to no sand which seems to be the best as yet. My qestions are as follows:

1) Will the sound get worse if the stands were to be filled tight to the top?

2) What's best - coupling or de-coupling the speakers to the stands (suffice it to say that I'm somewhat confused in this area)? I have some blu-tack and can try that - what about using cones such as the BDR MK3 or 4 (currently using MK3 under by source).

3) Is the suspended floor a problem? Would it help if I put granite slabs under stands?

After all I've read, I'm sure a better solution exist and I hope you can point me in the right direction.

Regards,

Mike
