If you do a search on this forum under IEC you will find a number of folks looking for advice on how to do surgery on their amps to *install* an EIC socket. They have the same goal as you - better sound.
I've no idea who is right, but superficially at least the opposite directions take to the same semi-specified goal does raise the spectre of skepticism.
