It's amazing how many electronic components (capacitors, active devices like tubes and transistors) are microphonic. When you mass load the CDP, you lower the frequency (hopefully to below the audio band, say, 15-20Hz) and especially reduce the amplitude of structure-and-air borne vibes received by these bits.You can increase the effectiveness of mass loading by putting your CDP on skooshy rubber feet, if it isn't already. This lowers the characteristic wiggle frequency (notice my clever use of scientific terminology) of the CDP chassis substantially below the audio band, to 2-5Hz, making the structure purely resistive at audio freeks, and reducing the amplitude even more.
