Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |
|
I posted yesterday on the Cable Asylum, with no response. Maybe the dedicated DIY guys can help.I'm trying to build a pair of short speaker extension cables, with female banana jacks at one end. Over the weekend, my wife and I were working in the garden when she said we needed some tunes out there. I had rearranged all my equipment over the winter and no longer have cables out to the back porch. Then I reallized that my main speakers are now sitting just below a pair of piano windows that face the garden. So if I open the windows, I can put a spare pair of speakers there, facing out. But my main cables don't reach the windows, so I need 5' extensions.
Now here's the rub: My mains use stackable banana plugs, but I don't want anyone to be able to plug both speakers in at the same time, so I want a cable with female banana jacks on it. Then the main cable will have to be unplugged from the speakers and plugged into the extensions. But I can't find any one who makes a cable-end banana jack. If I can't find any, I will take a pair of stackable plugs and saw the male end off, leaving only the sockets.
Anybody got any good ideas? Or know of any banana extension cords?
BTW, for this purpose I don't need to worry too much about quality. Any inexpensive solution will do.
Thanks,
Ted
