It is true only Resistor type passive pre-amps is true ! You can try transformers type passive Pre-amps now. We have made 12 step and 24 step attenuator. It can match solid state power amps with no problem ! It is variable impedance depend on your load and reflect to primary of transformers in terms of sq :)
