Dimmer switches are bad news for stereo equipment. Best to turn them off when listening. They work by pulsing the power to the light which corrupts the power to your stereo. They can also introduce DC voltage because of a capacitive thing that takes place with high frequency switching. So, bottom line, try to avoid dimmers with triacs. If you can find one of the old style ones that are strickly resistance they will be okay but those are very large and pricey and really aren't made anymore.Computer surge protectors don't use parts that are of good enough quality for a stereo system and generally aren't sized large enough. If you want a surge protector I would advise you to check into building Jon Risch's device. It is audiophile grade and won't limit power to your equipment nor degrade the power quality.
Sorry to tell you that the stuff you have isn't suitable and creates problems but thats the way it is. And don't use a UPS either. The tripp lite is an excellent device for your computer though.
Good luck,
Russ
