Re: Behringer - Where to put it?... The Trash?

Sorry to be rude, but I come from the sound reinforcement world that Behringer is supposedly designing this stuff for and Behringer, especially their eq and feedback destroyers are very much considered bottom of the barrel (might as well go shopping for audio at Sears or Radio Shack).

The parametric eq's are usable if you set them up manually. Just for fun, let the box do an auto eq, it will be the most extreme settings you have ever seen in your life. Two adjacent frequency bands will often end up at opposite settings, one boosted all the way, the very next band up or down will be cut as far as is possible. Then move the measurement mic a few inches and run the auto eq again, totally different settings.

The problem is that the auto eq actually believes what the RTA says and tried to flat the response of the room which is only possible for the exact location the measurement mic was sitting at the time you performed the auto eq. If you can setup your gear outside in a large field (or better yet in an anechoic chamber), then the Behringer might be able to do a decent job of auto eq'ing your system. Otherwise, garbage in - garbage out.

I have operated a Behringer 8024 in a sound reinforcement system. I ended up using it as a stereo 12 band parametric eq, and not much else. They do make a decent compressor (the 2100 Composer Pro), and managed to do a good job of knocking off the BSS DI, but there isn't much else in their product line I'd be willing to pay money for.

Phil
