Re: Help a scared dummy--installing new AC outlets

You got the procedure pat. Check for polarity using MM or use the ground indicator in your line treatment.

If you do not have a dedicated power line, run a surge test. Plug a 100 or 200 light bulb in the outlet and just unplug and plug, off and on around your home. Watch the bulb as it will indicate what's on that line. Any thing with a high start up draw is bad news; AC, Fridge, fluorescent lights and etc. Not only do these things create power surges but also put their electrical pollution back into the system. The cleaner the line, the better things sound so get the best band for your buck. Change what you can and put ferrite clanmp/blocks where you can't.
