I suspect we are not talking about the same item. I'm thinking of the asphalt based adhesive that used to help protect roofs and gutters from ice. Your post made me question my memory as to the price, though, as I live in California, the stuff I got at Home Depot a year ago may have been a lighter/cheaper version. There is NO way it was expensive--I'm way too cheap for that.It's very pliable and you can even pull it apart with your hands, but you wouldn't want to as it can get a bit sloppy. It has a plastic cover on each side, one of which can be removed for application.
