This would give mass loading but not the other desired effect of fill- vibration absorbtion .
I have read from other inmates that lead shot -similar to the balance weights- imparts some undesirable quality to music. Certainly filling stands with molten metal might unpredictably add resonance - and might also damage or discolor the outer surface.
I have seen in UK web sites Target stands advertised with a granulated steel fill so the technique already has some street cred.
