The iron schwarf is from the machine (a lot like a lathe) that they use to turn the drums / discs true. There's a negligible amount of shoe / pad material on the drum / disc (as in none) when they do this. the schwarf (one of my fave technical terms) comes from the trough at the bottom of the turning machine, and is the purest iron you can practically acquire; and, as Dr. Watson sez, it's free. I've used this stuff for a couple of things myself, but not for mass loading speaks. Good idea.Besides, shoe / pad material is not asbestos any more, in these ecologically consious times.
