The most sonically pure way of implementing a passive circuit is to mount the passive control device(s) in your amplifier. I mounted EVS attenuators, which have only a single Vishay resistor in the signal path, in my monoblock SE 300B amps and the sound is very transparent with dynamics to die for. The advantage that mounting the attenuators in the amps allows is foregoing a set of interconnects and two sets of RCA connectors. The disadvantage is that if you need to switch between sources, you need to switch the interconnects between sources (although you could mount a simple switch at the back of the amps to do this as well). I also have a separate passive preamp hardwired with an EVS attenuator, and I can hear the tranpsarency improvement when using the EVS attenuators mounted in the amps instead.Retsel
