No. You're not imagining things isolating equipment to minimized vibration does yield some benefits in sound. I can remember when I was playing around with my power amps isolation. I used every tweak out there from sand filled box to bicycle inner tubes and all of them has yield a different sonic character. I ended up using a concrete patio blocks which you can buy from any home renovation stores (like Home Depot for instance). To me IMHO, sounded just right. Anyway the size of this block is approxiamtely 14" square and about 3" thick it weighs about 20 to 30 pounds depending on the quality and oh by the way it's cheap.I've used the granite before and I find them a little harder sounding on the bottom end but you may hear differently so it doesn't really matter the most important thing is if it sounded right to you go for it.
But it doesn't hurt to try the patio blocks as well.
