Re: Passive Preamp with subwoofer

213.89.20.127

Are you saying that passive solutions sound bad or that it sounds bad when "loaded" with both amp and sub?

It´s a matter of impedance matching, and IMO you over simplify some...

If an amp has 20kOhm input imp. and a sub has 20kOhm input imp. the sum is the same as one single amp (load) at 10kOhm.

However splitting IC like this will double capacitance of cable load, if this is a problem (rolled of highs) depends on length of cables, quality of cables (read capacitance) and the impedance matching of signal source ouput impedance, attenuator impedance and amp/sub impedance.

If the source output stage is high current and the impedances are matched allover, with low capacitance cables which is not to long, then a passive solution sounds GOOD and there is no problem.
