I too, really love the WATT 6. I wish that I could justify buying a pair. Dave Wilson gave me a pair of WATT 1's with Puppy back in 1988. I lost them in a firestorm about 10 years ago. I lived without for about a year, then I heard the WATT3 / puppy at a friend's house and I knew that I had to do something. I couldn't afford the 3's, but a pair of WATT 1's, used came around for $2000. I bought them, hoping to upgrade, but it was not to be. The 1's are too bright for most commercial sources, so Bob Crump recommended throwing a sock over the tweeters, which works. I didn't like the 5's, but I love the 6's.
Folks, it is important to understand that the WATT enclosure is the secret. It is NOT the shape, but the construction. This special construction is VERY EXPENSIVE and impossible for an amateur. It is done in a machine shop, to a few thousands of an inch/cm. The material is so hard, that it dulls the cutting tools.
Dave once told me that it costed $1000 or so to just make the cabinet, and that was over 10 years ago. I bet that it costs even more now.
When someone tries to copy the WATT , they are only making a cheap imitation, a look alike. It is better to put you effort into other speaker designs. You know, copy a Spica, VMPS or whatever. You will make a better imitation in the long run.
By the way , TH , I went to your website. You really like to build, don't you? I wish I had been able to work with you on projects, over the years.
