I have no idea how the phase switch works, but I'm with you & can only hope the switch is either digital or on the rail voltage.avalanche voltage
If a shield around a cable is unanchored to anything, what causes this defacto series capacitor from arching it's accummulated DC value? We wouldn't wire high-voltage caps this way because they too will blow.....just my 2¢
