Re: active vs passive crossovers I feel the credit card coming out

Before you buy active crossoves, spend some time learning how they work.

You will find that with a little DIY skill you can insert active filtering into your system very cheaply.

For example, if you know the input impedance of your amplifiers, you can implement a first-order "active crossover" with nothing more than two capacitors.

If you want higher-order filtering, you can swap the coupling caps in the gain stages of your amplifier (if you have a DIY SET for example). This costs almost nothing and adds NO EXTRA PARTS!

For example, if you want second-order on the highs and first-order on the lows (a common arrangement), you just need three capacitors per channel.

No extra gain stages. No extra interconnects. Mega simple.

I bought some Marchand stuff (opamp-based 4th order active crossovers) but never used it. I'll sell it to you if you're interested.
