Thanks for responding guys.My setup is a Lexicon DC-1 as prepro driving the Ultracurve via RCA-1/4 inch connectors. From there it goes via more 1/4 inch-RCA concertors to my crossover which splits the signal between the Citation 7.1 driving my Wilson WATT 3 mains and the internal amps for my Entec subs.
Previously I was using a Behringer Feedback Destroyer to correct bass problems. This worked really well.
I started out just using the Ultracurve straight with none of the parametric EQ options. This indicated a similar response in the bass to what I was correcting with the BFD, and a suckout at about 250Hz. These were corrected nicely and it sounded very good, although there were some major swings in the sliders. And the aforementioned noise.
Unlike most rooms, BTW, mine supports deep bass too well, and I actually have to cut considerably from about 40Hz down.
So I applied some of my paramtrics EQs from the BFD and have managed to have the sliders +/- 6dB or so from each other. However, it seems checking this morning that everything is boosted above the Odb line. There is also a bit much high treble, but I can tweak that out.
The problem is this noise, and I believe Thorsten may have picked it. I talked to a Behringer tech last night, and he indicated that he thought it was quantization noise from lack of level. Indeed, as I raise the overall volume from the Lex, it goes away. And it seemed to get worse last night as my volume went down with late night listening.
I also flicked from a setting with correction to one with the EQ set flat but still in circuit. The flat setting was much quieter.
I unbridged my Citation (thus increasing the amount of gain the Lex needs to deliver) and noted an improvement. And checking the level meters on the UC I noted that at 0dB from the Lex, levels were -18 or so on the Dig Max scale.
I know that in Thorsten's review you mentioned something about this. Does this sound like what you were talking about?
If so, what solution do you suggest? I don't have attentuators on my Citation.
I really like the improved response from using the Ultracurve, but cannot live with this noise.
Thanks again.
