Seems odd....

That you would choose plywood over MDF for a more lively sound, yet use a very effective isolation device (DIYumas) on top of a rack which you want to resonate. Also seems odd that you would want a more "lively" rack, my experience has been that isolation, which is partially the racks job, is of primary importance, and then to "tune" the resonant frequencies using different materials in different quantities (even if it's none) on top of an isolated component. The reason for MDF is the transferrence of vibes to heat, similar to blue tack or sand or sorbothane, though they all behave somewhat differently. Real wood resonance may be used in tuning cabinets, but I'd use either something more rigid or more effective at damping than ply, as the increased resonance, even if it's easier to tune, is generally a very bad thing. Thanks for reading! Of course this is all IMHO.
