Electrical Tape Remedy Still Holding

I was getting a buzz and 60Hz hum from my 18 year-old MF X-10v3 tube buffer caused by the rear plate and the base holding the RCA posts losing the slightest bit of contact. After trying a couple of other fixes I decided to give the cheap tweak of taking a strip of electrical tape and strapping it across the base inside tightly and pulling the ends through to the outside (back) after which I tightened down the plate screws which may help keep it in place (hopefully). And the good news is that it works. It's only been a week so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I know I've read elsewhere here that eventually the tape may dry and leave a residue. My hope is that the rear plate tightened will hold the tape in place more like a strap should the stickiness of the tape dissipate. In any case, I'm a happy camper for now and evidence that even the cheapest and most basic tweaks can be effective.
