RE: DIY DC Umbilical Recipe

Since the Belden 5582UE cable is so inexpensive, the idea of the low-cost gold plated DC plug I pointed to can be upgraded with an Oyaide DC plug instead, which is the finest DC plug available, and far better than a mundane tin plated Switchcraft DC plug, which seems to be intended for very thin cabling, and it's not a robust connector. The inexpensive gold DC plug was simply indicated as a lower-cost option than a premium Oyaide product. Another matter is the DC plug is available in a number of sizes that both Oyaide and Switchcraft simply don't offer.

A solid core conductor for a DIY DC umbilical build tends to be a better sounding option than a typical stranded cable, and the polypropylene dielectric which is unusual for a non-audiophile solid core copper conductor is beneficial, since the material provides a low dielectric constant. Also, the combined gauge of the four 22 AWG conductors is only 16 AWG, which is not very stiff for solid core wires, so the cable can still be routed easily. That said, the rather thick 6.4mm Canare 4S6 stranded copper speaker cable with polyethylene dielectric is suitable for use as a DC umbilical, willsw.
