the long speaker project

63.214.13.147

Hello all,
Have finally decided to take the plunge and give speaker building a shot. Pouring through the pages and pages of information out there, I have a first question not in the "books."
When going for the bass, I thought I would try a powered sub with active crossover (Marchand) since I cannot find an 8 inch driver with sensitivity of 99db, an Fs of 12, an Xmax of 30mm, and an optimal enclosure of 1 cubic foot.
So, given the choice, would two smaller subs, one built into the bottom of each speaker, but thus limited by box size constraints (less than 2 cubic feet), be better than one properly designed, sealed, large box sub? Of course, this being the asylum, the goal is the best sound possible.

By the way, the rest of the system is so far shaping up to be: 1 Raven R1 or 2- x-over high up, 1 PHL 1130, and 2 PHL 1240 16ohms in parallel, all in a T-M-MW-MW tower. The plans change a lot, but I would like to get this up and running some time in 2003.

Thanks in advance for replies,

VM
