>Opinions on using solid oak for the shelves for the TNT FlexXy Table?I think it would be fine but MDF would be more acoustically "dead" if that is an issue. I went with birch plywood partially for cost but mainly out of laziness since I didn't want painted shelves ( wanted real woodgrain ) and didn't want to go to the trouble of veneering MDF or the expense of solid wood. The shelves are "dead" enough for my ears and I have no problems even though my turntable is on the bottom shelf. I also respectfully disagree with the post about Oak being worse than MDF in a humid environment. Mdf will soak up moisture and deform more than solid wood or plywood. Finished properly, either one shouldn't be a problem. You could build the shelves out of MDF and use Oak veneer to finish them...lots of work and $, though.
I also disagree with the idea to drill the holes larger. I used 3/4" threaded rods and drilled 3/4" holes. Yes, it was a tight fit and it made it a little more difficult to put together...the finished product is very solid though and made it worth the extra effort. I would definitely recommend going with oversized (3/4") allthread.

>your TNT FleXy Table?I LOVE it! I made an oversized ( taller, wider, and 3/4" rods ) 3 leg version of the TNT FleXy and couldn't be happier.
