AN,We have both Wellers and Hakkos around here. I prefer the Hakkos in general, as working with them is more comfortable to my hands than with the Wellers. The tip and the shaft design of the Hakkos also make fine soldering work easier in close quarters, which is what I do most of the time when building prototypes.
It seems to me that the Hakko tips last longer, too.
The Wellers get used, too, but only by those who were too slow to grab a Hakko for the day :-).

PS. I would advise looking into a good pump-driven desoldering machine (solder sucker), too.
