Re: 30 amp 12 volt power supply

The regulated, linear type power supply is a must. I have built 13.8VDC power supplies that output 30 amps with about 3mv of AC ripple at full load. I used the L200 regulator. This L200 drives a TIP 35C. The TIP35C drives four (4) 2N5302 transistors. About 7.5 amps load per transistor is maximum safe load with about 4 volts headroom or 17.8 volts at collector for 13.8 volts out at emitter. Now, the trick for ultra low noise is to supply the regulator and driver with about 28-30 volts DC (no load). To stablize the overall circuit gain, install about 1000 mfd capacitor on the output. If you want, I can send a schematic and a L200 regulator. Although Astron is one of the better power supplies available, this design will 'stomp' it. Jim
