I thought you had the amp without the return from the OPT connected and was wondering if it should be connected...If everything is fine with it connected, then it's most likely how it should be. My guess is that without it you'd end up with very high gain, perhaps high offset voltage at the output and poorer specs.
That doesn't mean it'll sound better or worse, but most likely the gain will be too high.
I would probably try disconnecting it, check for offset voltage at output, if reasonably low, connect speakers to it and listen.
It is possible to harm sometihng, but unlikely.
Try posting in the 'tube' assylum, and if no answers, well you just gotta try it yourself.
Is it because you're unhappy with the sound as is that you wish to experiment?
Don't you trust the ones who did the modification to be proficient enuff to have done it correctly?
