Have some Lovan stands that I did fill with sand and then
laminated the steel plate bottom with dampening material
to deaden the ringing that I could hear when I tapped
on it.I think if you start with any metal, that you will
always have the ringing problem.I have made other speaker stands out of concrete cinder blocks
(two 18" blocks glued together wrapped in black cloth,
cavities filled with fiberglass) These are really ugly.Probably someone should try building carbon fiber stands to
get the rigidity without the ringing.Could get some off-the shelf carbon fiber tubing (like for
bikes frames) and make a nice assembly.
