DIY cylindrical bass absorber (w/ pipe insulation)?

Just came across this DIY bass trap design. It is made from HVAC ductwork/pipe preformed fiberglass insulation. It appears as though it might be a quicker/easier design than others I've read about. I also wonder if it would be as effective(with equal sizes) as the JR design?

Has anyone else tried this design?
