I have replaced meduim priced Alps plastic pots with el-cheapo LINEAR carbon pots with an immediate improvement in sound. I'm in Australia, but for what it's worth, they were 'Dick Smith Electronics' mono pots for A$ 1-95 each. The linear pots sound really significantly better than the equivalent logarithmic pots, but are more difficult to useof course.
