I don't think its so much a philosphic choice between isolation and coupling (ynless you live next to an airport/train line/motorway), as it is a case of tuning your system towards the type of sound you enjoy.
Personally I like Vibrapods directly under a digital source and stand those on an isolation platform and that on cones.
I make platforms and I have had good success with simple designs.
However there was a time when I loved my homemade rollerblocks.
