Grounding usually has an positive effect. It is possible to thread the end of a bare copper wire through the ERS and then ground the other end. I used to do something similar when I used copper foil tape to do shielding throughout my digital products (Positive Feedback volume 6 issue 5 or 2, IIRC in an article by Doug Blackburn [who got the idea from me, BTW]).
However in experimenting with ERS, the effects of grounding is very small, barely noticeable, so I do not ground the pieces.Military grounds their stealth shielding, though.
