RE: "What is the general theory on speaker placement in relation to windows?"

Thanks for the info. I know there's a whole tonne of variables at play here. My question actually focused on whether, having heard a worse sound when the speakers USED to be in front of the window, which may have just been the result of poor speaker placement, is it possible for me to dial in a position that is better than what I have now? My current location just doesn't give me the flexibility to create, for example, 1/4 room length from rear wall and 1/5 room width from side wall ratios (speaker is at 1/3 room height).

The windows AREN'T floor to ceiling, they have blinds and thick curtains and the corners and area under the window have several of my DIY (rockwool) panel absorbers. I thought before, with the speakers in front of the windows, that the thick concrete behind me was to blame for skewing the sound. This now has chunky style absorbers resting on the cupboards in the corners.

In terms of symmetry, if I were to move the speakers, there would be a cupboard surface 2ft to the front and side of one of the speakers and not on the other side. Following the proportions mentioned above, the speakers will be 3' from the side walls. If I placed a thin absorber panel in front of this cupboard is it likely to make it more 'invisible'? Or, should I use something more absorbent in the higher frequencies? Both sides will have their first reflection points taken care of, it's just one of them will be 1' closer in. Is it actually a major concern that outweighs any of the other benefits of turning the room around?
