Judging picture quality is subjective for sure. Reliability for me was watching a number of programs over again that I had previously watched very recently, some of which had been watched more than once, and paying critical attention. Relying just on vision, I was able to notice a big improvement when I purchased a blu ray player and watched blue ray DVDs for the first time on a 1080p HDTV. I believe pretty much everyone is able to discern the difference in picture quality between regular and blu ray DVD. What I noticed with this upgrade was pretty similar, but for broadcast HDTV. The biggest thing is the detail in the far background scenery. There were certain scenes when a difference was very noticeable. If I had to make a judgment and pick one of 3 categories: no difference, maybe a slight difference, or definite difference, I would say it easily was a definite difference. Where I lived previously I had upgraded 2 outlets but not the cover plates with cryod outlets, and was not able to really tell any difference, and that was near an airport where I know was a lot of RFI interference. Here I am a lot further out and assume there would be less RFI, but who knows. All I can say is that the broadcast HDTV has been raised to match blu ray quality.
