The bricks are simply stacks of ferrous sheet metal about 10 gauge thick housed in a wooden container for appearance. They work primarily by capturing magnetic fields and of course the mass certainly adds dampening.A simple way to obtain the magnetic properties is to simply use a old E-I core transformer and use it where you would place the magic brick. Remember that the transformer cores are directional, as is the Magic Brick, so experiment with different orientations.

If you elect not to cut an transformer core off the laminations, short out the transformer leads.
