RE: Best 240/120v step-down transformer?

Hi Alan!

Literally just got back to LA from NZ hours ago. Terrible flight. (Yes, I ignored your advice and we are moving there. But I appreciated your heartfelt input at the time. Thanks! Will send a private e-mail with pics and particulars. Carol and son send their best, too. Hope Jen and you and your lovely daughter are doing fabulous!) :-) !!

Had checked with the folks at PurePower some time ago. The numerous PP2000 and 1050 models we own can't do the down conversion, but Damian @ PP recommended we just buy an inexpensive 240/120 downconverter with sufficient capabilities (around 4-5000 watts or so; about US$120, last I looked) and that should do it. But power in NZ ain't cheap (neither is anything else for that matter, save food.) So we are considering swapping out some pieces of gear, and only down-converting where we simply cannot bear to part with any particular pieces.

Fortunately, many of my pieces are switchable to 240/220 from 120/110v (thank heaven), or I'd really be up an economic creek without a paddle! (I'll send you an e-mail about switching the bazillion Ref IIs and PE Vs and VIs I have over to the Aussie/NZ standards. The plugs are unique to the region, unfortunately. David Aiken will be a real resource here, and I am in touch with that gentleman. He's nice, informed and a very helpful individual. I look forward to any and all guidance he will provide us. I also look forward to your advisements as well, as they are uniformly brilliant and always welcome.)

Basically, my post herein merely sought information on any 'audiophool recommended' downconverters that might have a purer, less distorted approach to same than a run-of-the-mill downconverter, such as what I referenced above for around $120 or so.

Thanks to all who responded.
