Not necessarily, either on the copper content or "more direct sound". Non-plated is simply a different flavor, as is an outlet with higher (or lower) copper content. Some listeners feel that silver-plated copper outlets sound more direct....others say that palladium-over-gold sounds more direct. And others have experienced "more direct sound" with certain plated versions vs. non-plated versions.
Again, it's all a matter of personal preference. And to paraphrase Seinfeld ...."nothing wrong with that". If one design floats your boat more than another, enjoy it. That's the point I make.
