Moving it around to the best room placement is always best with any speaker, in particular with subs. If you cannot do this, then play with other controls and with the vibe control as well.
For the vibes, I've had spikes, cones, rubber, racquetballs, and combos of sandbox, constrained layer plus roller balls. The last was best of all with my old large cheapo KLH sub. With my newer Onix, all it took was the cones and discs that it came with.
Ya just gotta 'speriment!
I do use the Behringer BFD for EQing it, which I do recommend if you can't move the sub around the room and if you are plagued with boom.
